I am trying to increase the environment score of the two unfurnished areas in story mode – the central room and the outdoors –, which start out deeply in the red, by placing new objects. (This is actually a big advantage of this game over the Sims, where environment couldn't be measured without switching to Live mode and using Sim objects.)
I noticed that expensive musical instruments, which the story requires the player to purchase, are stated to have much reduced effect in "kitchen". And certain kitchen objects, such as a fridge, subtract from the environment if placed in other rooms. Certain other objects also hurt the rating, like the wooden stereo ($230), where the reason is not obvious. I tried placing a wall to divide the kitchen and the living area into two separate rooms, but that didn't increase the radiance from the musical instruments significantly. (I thought this to be a good choice anyway, to get objects at the new wall and because I perceive the kitchen as dirty.)
How exactly are the bathroom, the living room, the bedroom, and the kitchen defined?
